What is Passover?

For thousands of years, Passover has been a feast celebrated by Jews and Christians. The story of Passover is a feast instituted by God to remember His salvation for the Jewish people from the bonds of slavery in Egypt.

When do we celebrate Passover?

This year, the Passover feast will begin on the evening of Saturday, March 27 at sundown and ends on the evening of Sunday, April 4. While it is customary to celebrate the “Seder” (ceremonial) dinner on the first night of Passover, you could use the Haggadah included in the box to conduct your Seder dinner anytime you choose during the designated week-long period that Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread is observed.

How do we celebrate Passover?

The customs and traditions for Passover were originally instituted by God to the Jews before they left Egypt as a memorial feast that was meant to be passed down “throughout the generations” (Exodus 12). The elements used at Passover (like wine, unleavened bread or “matzah”, bitter herbs, and others) are reminders of the first Passover and are symbolic of the New Covenant.

The items in our Passover box give you the staples of what you need to have a successful Seder celebration with family or friends. Our Haggadah (“Prayer Guide”) has all of the details of the other items you’ll want to have on the table (like horseradish, parsley, and other meaningful things easily accessible at home or in your local grocery store) and will walk you through step-by-step the Passover meal that involves everyone at the table participating in the experience.

How do I know which box to choose for my Passover dinner?

Well, there’s really not a right answer for which box is the “right” option, but here’s a few tips to point you in the right direction.

  • Who’s coming to dinner? — We’re big believers in the philosophy of “the more the merrier” when it comes to dinner tables. So we designed our box experiences to reflect that! We offer both alcoholic only, non-alcoholic only, and mixed (wine and grape juice) options. If you’re having a gathering that includes children or people who might abstain from alcohol, we recommend the 4 or 6 bottle options which are mixed (including both “table” and premium wines from Israel!) so you have a variety of options to serve.
  • How much wine/juice should I pour? — Traditionally, each person at a Passover meal will drink four glasses of wine… You heard that right, FOUR glasses per person! (The reason behind that is explained in your Haggadah!). Our recommendations for the servings of each box are based on if you poured 6-ounce portions of wine or grape juice per person. For example, the 4 bottle (mixed) box of grape juice and wine should serve between 6 to 8 people. However, if you’re not keen to serve four glasses of wine per person, or you want to stretch the wine/juice to have a giant party, you could certainly pour one glass of wine for each person and they only do four “sips” instead. (Hint: each bottle contains four 6-oz. servings… we’ll leave you to do the math for your 14-foot table!)
  • Dietary restrictions? — Each box has the choice of either gluten-free or regular matzah. The “regular” box has wheat flour and the gluten-free option is made of tapioca starch. Gluten-free is available by request only so email us at hello@israeligoodwine.com after you place your order!
  • Where do you live? — Due to alcohol regulations, we can only ship boxes containing wine to certain states. The 2 Bottle (Non-Alcoholic) box can be shipped anywhere in the Continental U.S.

How and when do I get my box?

Once you place your order, our team will process and ship it out by UPS to your doorstep! Boxes containing wine can only be purchased by and delivered to someone over the age of 21.

Here are the order cutoff dates for guaranteed delivery by the start of Passover (sundown on March 27):

  • Texas: orders must be placed no later than 11:59pm on March 23
  • All other states: orders must be placed no later than 11:59pm on March 21

Any orders placed after those dates will be fulfilled as soon as possible, but cannot be promised in time for the beginning of Passover.

About Israeli Good Wine

Israeli Good Wine was founded by a group of friends from UPPERROOM who bonded over a shared love of food, wine, and traveling the globe. On one adventure, they followed the 32nd parallel from Dallas to the hills of Israel where they discovered exquisite and unique wines. Upon returning home to Texas, they realized they’d found a new calling: to bring fine wines from Israel to tables near and far and reconnect people to God’s heart for Israel. With a passion for innovation and authenticity, we aim to bring you the very best wine experiences as an invitation for you to explore, savor, and serve at your tables or wherever your adventure may lead.
